Halloween:

For my research into title sequences in the genre of horror, i watched the title sequence of Halloween. I didn't think much to it in all honesty. However I did notice there were connotations with the idea of horror and halloween.

Throughout the whole title sequence my vision and attention was drawn towards a pumpkin, which is the predominant symbol for Halloween. The pumpkin has a scary face carved into it, which indicates there will be a scary character in the film.

I also noticed that the background was just plain black. This represents a number of things. Firstly, the black could represent night, and a lot of horror scenes occur in the night. An alternative thing the black could mean is the the unknown. People are afraid of the unknown, which is why black is used in a lot of horror films.

The writing that appeared on the screen changed colour, from yellow, to orange, to red. I thought this was indicating things were going to get more and more dangerous as the film went on. Also the red represents blood and danger. This is linked to the film because horror is associated with gore, which is why the writing is red.

The sound also shows a lot about the film. There is a slow beat and a sound that signifies mystery. The slow and confusing music in the title sequence of a horror film is common.
