The audience that our storyline would appeal to is a younger audience, maybe around 15-35. This is because it is a horror movie and the certificate is 15. We decided on this certificate because it has horror and slightly gory scenes in, but it does not have any sexual reference. It would not be suitable for anyone younger than that age because there are scary scenes in the movie. An argument could be made to move the film up to an 18, but I think the target audience would be too narrow. Anyway, some other horror films that have similarities with ours are 15 certificate too. Examples of these that our audience may be interested in are Prometheus and Chernobyl Diaries. If people are interested in these films, they might be interested in ours too. These films are an example that 15 certificate horrors can still be good films, and successful. Our film is going to be targeted at both genders. The reason we decided to make it unisex is for the wider target audience. Obviously a wider target audience will result in more views for our film.  Our film will be independent rather than mainstream, because it doesn't have a massive distributor behind it or a large budget.

Audience and research

The audience that our storyline would most appeal to would probably be a teenager to young adult audience, the age range would most likely be around 15-35 year old, this would be due to scary scenes during the film which may not be suitable for young people, the certificate for the film would either be a 12  due to it being a horror genre but not having extensive scenes of gore, sexual scenes or violence.  Other films such as this would be woman in black which is a 12 but is a well known horror film and still contains some scary moments even while it is only a certificate 12, another example of a film like this would be chernobyl diaries which is only a 15 but is still a jumpy horror with a good film reputation. This shows that even with a low certificate horror films can still be successful. The gender targeted by the film would be unisex as there are no specific scenes in the film that would appeal to a certain gender or no specific dialogue that would appeal to a gender. The film would be an independent film as it would not be a massive audience due it being a specific genre which is not the most popular of all the genres.

Final choice of storyline-
Our group has come to the final decision that we will choose chloes storyline, We have chosen it because it's the most simple film to record and we think it will be easier to get the hang of, as it is the most realistic.  Chloes storyline is called 'The Black cross'. The target audience for this film would be a 15. This is due to the fact that there will be scary scenes in which would be inappropriate for young children. Below is our chosen storyline, Basically. a boy moves into a new house and begins going through abnormal changes, he hears strange sounds and sees things. He finds a Black cross and from the minute he touches it, his life changes... he meets a girl,  she goes missing and is found dead. One of parents die so parents decide to move back to previous house.

'Each member of our group have been assigned to create a story line for a different film, in which we could later on use for our potential film. i have decided to create my own storyline, my idea will involve   using different forms of lighting, sound and images. My own contribution of an idea will be named 'The Black Cross'. I have named it this due to the fact, The cross within this film is a symbol of 'death'. A young family move into a new house away from the city centre, the house is hundreds of years old, The old couple in which lived there before the new family, died in this house with no known reason. Nobody has lived there since. A boy part of the new family, named Hugo, finds a secret compartment off his bedroom, covered by a mat. He goes in and finds boxes of old books, photographs and videos, and a black cross. In the background of all pictures or somewhere within the picture is the black cross and a hand holding it. The boy attaches it to a piece of string and wears it round his neck, he begins examining it and looking it up, and spends a vast majority of his time at school and college researching it, and trying to find what it is. Strange things begin happening to him, he changes slowly, from being a sweet and fairly happy young boy, to being more touchy and stroppy. He begins hearing noises, foot steps and church bells ringing. No churches are around, nobody is in and the house is in the middle of a dark and lonely countryside. Hugo knows he isnt imaging these sounds, he makes a friend at college named Maddie. They become close friends, and she helps him discover what the cross is, one day, Maddie goes missing, she is no where to be found,  But hugo finds a note under his pillow saying 'MADDIE= IMDEAD' that the evil spirit has left. The spirit becomes more and more visible and hugo begins seeing the hand holding the cross, more and more, he looks through his childhood photographs and realises the cross and hand is also in his memory too. he discovers the cross is his demon, and it kills each and every victim in which is cursed to have it, He discovers the old couple died due to this demon, and in the end is viciously attacked and hurt by it. All past memories of Maddie come back, his parents become aware that something is going on in the house, they want to move, they cant stay there any longer. They move back into the city and the demon follows him, it wont stop until hugo is dead. it slowly kills off this dad, He stabs the dad Hugo is left with nothing but his mother, his mother is distraught about the loss of her husband. he sets cameras up around the house and catches the demon watching him sleep. The demon worms its way into Hugos body, Hugo is now possessed and kills his mother, the film ends with the funeral at the grave. yard and on the grave stone is the hand holding the cross.

I have decided to write my storyline in the genre of horror.

A group of three friends are very drunk and messing around in one of their houses. One of the friends come up with the idea to spend the night camping in the woods. The three friends venture into the woods with their tent, with plans to spend the night. Whilst the three friends are joking around and laughing in the tent, a loud, slow drum beat starts somewhere in the distance. One of the friends goes outside to investigate the weird noise. They walk out of sight. Camera cuts back to the two friends in the tent who hear a scream. They simultaneously scramble for the tent opening to check if everything is okay. The character who went to investigate is nowhere to be seen, but the two remaining characters notice a note on a nearby tree. It reads, "You're Next...". A shallow focus shot shows the two friends looking at each other horrified, with a blurry white figure in the background wearing a suit. When the camera shot changes and the two friends look behind them, the figure has gone. They decide to stick together from then on. They search the area around the tent. One of the friends needs to go to the toilet, so they walk off to a dark area of undergrowth. The character notices another note stuck to the tree. This one says, “Don’t look behind you”. A shallow focus shot from where the note is positioned shows the character looking at the camera, with the white figure from before stood right behind them. As the character turns around the figure comes into focus, and grabs them. Camera goes black with the character screaming. Camera goes to remaining person, who is frantically running back to the tent. They dive inside and grab a mobile phone, dialling 999. The police tell them they’ll be approximately 15 minutes. In around ten minutes, the person inside the tent hears a voice outside. “Hello! This is the police!” The character climbs hastily out of the tent, stands up, and looks around. They cannot see anyone. The camera does a full circle around them until it shows behind. The figure from before is stood behind the character, and it is now clear the figure is slender man. The character turns around and screams, film finishes.
