Evaluation Q7 Emily
7- Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel
you have learnt in the progression form it to the full production?
-I believe I have made a good progression from our
preliminary exercise than to l’our full film. This is because our preliminary
exercise was simple and the shots we used weren’t difficult as the one we used
in our film. We only used several shot in our preliminary exercise like, 180
degree shot rule, match on action and shot reverse shot, these camera angles we
easy for me to do and I did them really well. But in the actually full film we
used shots like, Pan, Medium long shot, Long shot, zoom, close up, and medium
close shot. These shots were much more difficult but I did them really well.
Also this full film we did lasts longer than the preliminary task so I believe
we had more pressure on the full movie, so we had to look into shots in other
films more to make it look as professional as we could.
2) I have used a different camera shots like pan as I moved
the camera side wards to follow the actors. Also I have learnt how to make I
film look better and the genre we wanted it to, which was horror, as it was
dark and filmed in a creepy place, we did this by looking up different films. Also
I learnt that using props during a film could make the film much better and
make it more interesting for the audience to watch.
3) I have got better at shots and using more shots, also I
have got better at choosing shots for a certain scene to make it look better
and match the genre we want in this case it was horror. Also I have learnt that
working with people we don’t know it really good as we all worked well and they
was really good at acting because we didn’t make one another laugh. If we
worked with people we are close friends with we are more likely to get
embarrassed and therefore do something wrong whilst filming a shot and this
would take a lot of time and could make the film look worse.
4) I have used different shots, cinematography and editing
which I believe has made me more aware of using a camera and making the best
film we can. Also I have learnt that looking up films and how they used there
shots and made the film look good and match the genre and use this to interpret
our film and add them to our film to make it look more professional and make
the audience aware of what our film is about.
Evaluation question 7

We also had brief experience in acting as we had to perform during the task; we used different shots such as over the shoulder shots and made sure the 180 degree rule was in place. This helped us progress and learn new skills we would essentially need for the film. When we went to film our group knew how the cameras worked and the best positions for each shot and the duration the shot needed to be, using the tripod we were also able to incorporate new shots such as a pan shot which looked really good in our opening scene. We positioned the camera in a good position where all 3 characters could be seen easily and could be followed down the driveway for our opening scene which we believed looked really good as an introduction to all the different characters names and the title of the film.

When we proceeded to the scenes in the woods we used our experience and made it so the camera was stable in position and would not shake or move to distort the video we were creating from these scenes, we made sure there was sufficient light as we were taught this would be key to film in dark places and make them look good and still be able to see the characters clearly even in pitch black conditions which a lot of our shots took place, to do this we had to use what we learned from both our tutors and experience doing other tasks to be able to make our film, as we believe, a success.

Evaluation q5
7. looking
back at your preminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
My progression throughout the formation of my final film from the
simple preminary exercise was quick and improving fast, as the shots I used
within the preminary task weren’t as tricky and difficult as some of the shots
and effects we chose to use within our film ‘Slender’. Our preminary exercise
was to film someone walking into a class having a conversation and walking out
again, and in comparison to that and Slender I feel I have improved vastly as I
am more aware of the camera use and I now know more ways to shoot different
shots and the different methods of doing so. We had to make sure we included
certain types of shot in which include\: shot-reverse-shot, 180 degree rule and
match on action. We carried out all three of these within our preminary exercise
and our three minute film too. We looked through different most used shots
within horror films and we included: zoom, long shot, close up, medium close up
and pan shot, in which during the preminary exercise we wouldn’t have been
capable of carrying out.
I learnt how to use a camera
properly and the three vital shots correctly; therefore I used this as a
starting base and gradually got better and more aware of other shots from that
point. I believe I have got better at using the camera as I have already
stated, using different shots and the different types of focused you can do
with the camera; in Slender we included the ‘shallow focus’.
We have used many different shots, editing
and cinematography methods in which I believe have helped me as a learner
improve on my awareness of a camera and the ways in which it can be used. I
became more involved in different groups with people I haven’t necessarily
worked with before and I have got to know them better.

Evaluation question 2
In our film we have used the stereotypes of films of a
horror genre using sounds and our location but our cast was not that that may
be have been expected as all our cast was male which showed them being independent
at first and confident about what they were doing but were shown to fear and be
challenged by one mysterious character, also as all our cast are young boys it
possibly shows how they were deluded into thinking they could go through the
nice peacefully and without any problems. We represented our characters to look
confident and cocky through the first scenes of our film to contrast against the
film at a later time when the characters are scared and vulnerable. To show
this we used lights that only concentrated on their face, we did this to make
them look as if the pressure was on them and they were alone, and vulnerable in
a dark mysterious background. We used a low angle shot on the first scene as
this was when they were most comfortable and confident about what they were
going to do, this then changed as we made the camera angle seem more even
further throughout the film to show they were not as comfortable in these
surroundings and the situation the characters were in.
