Why the horror genre suits us

We chose to do our film based on a horror genre for a number of reasons, we all agreed that this was a genre we both liked and were interested in, immediately we had ideas flowing of possible characters, locations, props and sounds, we all wrote a storyline for a film we would like to create and thought was possible to film. We all then looked at each others storyline and chose one which we all thought we would be able to film and was interesting and would attract an audience. We knew a wide range of basic factors that would be associated with the horror genre such as dark rooms, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery sounds and scary characters, we tried to put as many of these factors into our film  as we could without going over the top, we made our destination in a dark woods which would usually be associated with a horror genre, we also used shocks in scenes which are key in a horror in order to attract an audience. We believe that other genres such as comedy may be too hard to film as humour can differ in different places so may not be successful. But fear is alive everywhere and can be related to by everyone so can appeal to a much larger audience and be less likely to be of an aquired taste.
